How does it work?
What materials are needed
Syringes, needles (G22-25), slides, pencil and other materials you already have in your clinic.
Order VetCyto slide containers (for free) or use any other safe packaging
1. Get a sample
Obtain a sample from the animal and prepare it according to VetCyto’s advice
2. Fill an electronic submission form
Digital form – no need to print it out!
You and VetCyto will automatically receive it in our e-mails!
3. Send sample
Get the parcel ready to be shipped.

4. Get an answer
Report will be sent to the e-mail that you entered in the submission form within 48h (after receipt at VetCyto)

Send yourself using any service
Use any parcel company or courier to ship samples – DPD, Omniva, Itella, VENIPAK etc. Usually 2 – 4 business days.

When sending the samples the first time, please contact VetCyto and will explain you the requirements – e.g. we need phone number of a contact person or preferred pickup hours.
Questions and Answers
Cytology results can guide your choice of treatment, for example, you act differently if the formation is malignant or benign. You can see if antibiotic therapy and/or bacteriology are necessary (septic inflammation), is surgical removal of the mass necessary or will it resolve without surgery/with medical treatment, etc.
Cytology reports can facilitate the prognostication.
Internal organs (liver, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder masses etc), periphral blood, skin masses, subcutaneous masses can be evaluated cytologically.
Common cytological diagnoses: lymphoma, mast cell tumor, lipoma, abscess, squamous cell carcinoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, cholestasis, suspected FIP, epithelial inclusion cyst, etc.

Most of materials you have already at your hand in the clinic – needles (22G-25G), 2-5 ml syringes, cotton swabs, slides with a frosted end, pencil.

Answers are sent via email within 48 hours after the sample receipt at the VetCyto.
In rare cases when samples are not diagnostic (material type, human error etc) VetCyto will review a repeated aspirate, taken within a months time, free of charge.

The sensitivity of cytology can vary in different tissues, the quality of the sample taken is also important.
